At the end of 110 minutes of play, Luther and the University of Dubuque finished tied 0-0. The victory gave the Norse one point in the league standings that secured the outright Iowa Conference championship. The title is the ninth in school history and first since 2013.
Statistically, Luther out shot Dubuque 17-10 and placed five shots on goal, while the Spartans had two shots on goal. The Norse dominated in corner kicks with 13 to the Spartans three.
The tie gives Luther a final regular season league record of 6-1-1, 10-4-4 overall. Dubuque is now 4-2-2 in league play, 8-5-3 overall.
As the No. 1 seed, Luther will have a first round bye for the six-team Iowa Conference Tournament. The Norse will host a semifinal match on Wednesday, Nov. 1.
The Norse have never missed making the Iowa Conference Tournament since its inception in 1996, a string of 21 consecutive years. This will only be the third time Luther will be the No. 1 seed of the tournament. The other two times, the Norse won the tournament in 2001 defeating Loras 2-1 in overtime. The last time there were the No. 1 seed was 2001 and Luther lost to Loras 1-0 in the championship match.
