No. 7 Luther faced its first nationally ranked team of the season, No. 17 Carthage in today's first of two games at the NTC Spring Games.
Carthage entered today's opener ranked No. 1 in the nation for batting average hitting at a .500 clip. All-American Becca Girvan (7-1) held the Lady Reds to two runs on three hits en route to a 3-2 victory.
Luther took a 2-0 lead in the first when Carli Radil drove Miranda McCay and Hiliary Pennington with a single to left field. Carthage leveled the score in the third thanks to a Darian Pelsor double to center field. In the bottom of the fourth, Alise Miller produced the game winner, a solo shot to left-center field. It was Miller's first home run of the year.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 13-2. Carthage fell to 5-4.
