A four-run seventh by Carleton spelled doom for Luther as the Knights defeated the Norse 7-4. Luther held a 4-2 advantage heading into the top half of the seventh, when the Knights scored four runs on three hits and took the lead for good.
Mitch Knippenberg, who drove in runs in the first and fifth frames, led the Norse offensive attack going 3-for-5 batting clean-up. Eric Pittman (2-4) and Aldon Severson (2-3) also had multiple hit outings.
Carlos Pineda was credited with the loss. It was Pineda's first start for the Norse. He threw 6 1/3 innings, allowed five runs on six hits, walked three and struck out three.
The loss gives Luther an overall record of 5-4, while Carleton improved to 5-3.
The Norse have one more tuneup on Wednesday against Carthage before they begin Iowa Conference play at the Kino Sports Complex against No. 25 Buena Vista Univeristy on Friday and Saturday. The Carthage (1x9) game is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. central time.
