The Luther women’s tennis team faced its toughest opponent of the season up to this point and was swept for the first time all year by a nationally ranked DePauw squad. The Tigers are currently No. 16 in the nation and No. 5 in the Central Region.
After DePauw cruised to a doubles sweep, the Norse fought back and played much more competitively in singles. Cassandra Chalhoub won her opening set at No. 3 against Meg Crowley and was one point away from winning before dropping a (4-6, 6-3, (11-9)) decision. Katy Lindstrom also won the first set at No. 6, but lost (5-7, 7-5, (10-4)) to Kaitlin Pickrel. Lindstrom trailed 5-2 in the opening set before rallying by winning five straight games. She also rallied back from a 4-1 deficit in the second set to make the score 5-5. Lola White-Baer pushed her opponent for the first set, dropping a (7-5, 6-1)) decision to Claire Marshall at No. 4. Elise Allen also had a tight first set, but fell (6-4, 6-0) to Maggie MacPhail at No. 2.
The Norse are now 11-6 overall and will return to action against St. Olaf on Saturday, March 10 in Rochester, Minn.
