The Luther College men’s tennis team extended its winning streak to six straight with a 9-0 sweep of Dubuque in Dubuque, Iowa. The Norse only dropped five games total in doubles and then won a trio of three set matches in singles on the way to a road win.
Torstein Jystad and Aaron Ford started things off with an (8-0) win over Mike Braden and Nikolay Gospodinov at No. 3 doubles. James Ayer and Sam Cychosz followed with an (8-1) victory against Dishon Deering and Trevor Calahan. Ramesh Karki and Quinn Foley shrugged off a slow start, earning an (8-4) win at No. 1 against Demetrius Johnson and Shawn Iben.
Karki, Foley, and Matt Knutson all won in straight sets for the Norse while the other three matches all went to a deciding third set. Karki was a (6-0, 6-2) winner against Johnson at No. 1, Foley edged Braden (6-4, 7-5) at No. 3, and Knutson scored a (6-1, 6-2) victory over Deering at No. 4.
Jystad dropped his opening set, but then rolled to a (4-6, 6-2, 6-0) win at No. 2, defeating Gospodinov. Ford went back and forth for three sets against Iben before prevailing (7-5, 4-6, 7-5) at No. 5. Jason Knutson closed out the match with a (6-4, 4-6, (14-12)) victory against Calahan at No. 6 to complete the sweep.
Luther has now moved to 12-9 overall and 5-1 in the IIAC. The Norse play Buena Vista on Sunday, April 28 in Storm Lake, Iowa in the final match of the regular season.
