The Luther College men’s tennis team finished out the day in Green Bay, Wis., with a sweep over the host Green Knights of St. Norbert in the night match. Luther swept the three doubles matches and won all six singles matches in straight sets.
Quinn Foley and Matt Bellio made quick work of Ryan Schmit and Josh Sweere at No. 3 doubles, winning (8-1) to give the Norse an early lead. Ramesh Karki and Kyle Appel followed with an (8-2) victory over Casey Brice and Nate Gosz at No. 2 to make it 2-0. James Ayer and Isaiah Mayerchak rallied late in the match at No. 1 to edge Tim Hartwick and Travis Buechel by a (9-7) margin.
Foley continued his dominating play with a (6-1, 6-2) win over Brice at No. 6 and Bellio raced past Gosz (6-3, 6-0) at No. 3 to clinch the victory. Jystad slid into the No. 1 slot and controlled the action in a (6-1, 6-1) win against Hartwick. Mayerchak overcame some early struggles to win (6-4, 6-1) for the second time on the day, defeating Leon Gilman and completing a perfect 4-0 day. Appel was steady in a (6-2, 6-2) win against Buechel at No. 2 while Ayer beat Gosz by the same (6-2, 6-2) tally at No. 4, completing a 9-0 sweep for the Norse.
