Luther and Coe split the first two games of this weekend's four-game series. The Kohawks won game one 9-8 in eight innings and the Norse won the nightcap 4-2.
In game one, the Norse took an 8-5 lead in the top of the seventh scoring three runs on three hits, but the Kohawks answered with three runs in the bottom half of the frame to send the game into extra innings. In the bottom of the eighth, Michael Goerdt hit a walk-off single that secured the one-run victory.
Andy Briggs, Eric Pittman and David Lowe each had two of Luther's nine hits. Brian Paulsrud drove in two of the Norse runs with a double in the second.
Andy Briggs, followed by back-to-back-to-back doubles by Aldon Severson, Mitch Knippenberg and Matt Larson led to three runs in the sixth that proved to be the difference. Nate Beckman picked up his first collegiate victory throwing the final 2 2/3 innings.
The split gives the Norse an Iowa Conference record of 7-15, 14-19. The Kohawks are now 8-16, 12-21. Tomorrow's double header will begin at 1:00 p.m.
