with the Catalyst Quartet
“A top-notch ensemble, playing with a tightly woven sound and palpable zest.” — Chicago Sun Times
Experience the skilled, energetic spirit of the Sphinx Virtuosi ensemble. Composed of 18 of the top alumni from the national Sphinx competition for young black and Latino string players, the Virtuosi are redefining the future of classical music. Through their exuberance and technical finesse, the musicians embody a world in which classical music reflects cultural diversity. This performance, Music of the Americas, will highlight African American and Latino composers such as Piazzolla, Ginastera, and Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson. The four principal players—members of the Catalyst Quartet—will be featured on small-ensemble and unaccompanied solo works.
