James J. Kaufmann, piano, and Luther professor Jon Ailabouni, trumpet, will present a recital on Wednesday, October 11th at 7:30 p.m. in Luther College's orchestra room in the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music.
The recital is free and open to the public.
Kaufmann and Ailabouni have a vision of a musical experience of intimacy, honesty, and spontaneity, and have thoughtfully prepared a jazz recital striving to fulfill this vision. They have chosen Luther College's Orchestra Room to share their unamplified sounds, favoring its "whisper-me-a-musical-secret" acoustic.
The format of the evening is not a "program" in the traditional sense; the duo has meticulously prepared a larger set of tunes than they will have time to play and will access them as the evening's moments beckon. The vehicles--jazz, popular, spiritual, and original melodies ranging from standard to obscure--have been flight-tested via exploration of tempos, keys, meters and modes of interaction. Welcome; let your ears be your wings as you join the journey.
