Research Interests

My field of specialization has been British modernism, and I remain fascinated at the ambivalent artistic conversion of W.B. Yeats to modernism in the second decade of the 20th Century. My retirement interests entangled me for a while in an scholarly work on Ruth Suckow, in part because my M.A. thesis was a study of that Iowa writer. I was editor of and contributor for some years to the newsletter of the Ruth Suckow Memorial Society, which prints both archival fragments of previously unpublished letters, poetry, stories, and critical essays.

I continue to travel and even to teach. In November of 2006 I led a Tuesday Seminar at Luther for a group of retired community people on James Joyce's Dubliners.
