Introductory Portfolio Evaluators
Competencies 1-7 and 9-10 are submitted for assessment during particular 200-level Education courses. See the chart at the link above. Competency 8 is assessed by the 185/215 professor. Currently, Music ED students have a different timeline for some competency work, but with the pending program change, by the end of the Fall 2013 semester, Music ED students will follow the same timeline as the other 200-level Education students.
Students in a fall semester 200-level Education course are required to attend an October meeting about the “Portfolio System.” At that time, the expectations for completion of the three portfolios is explained, with particular attention to the timeline and expectations for the completion of the “Introductory Portfolio.” A similar meeting will be offered during the spring semester.
· The “introductory portfolio” must be completed satisfactorily no later than the last day of exams in the semester prior to the candidate’s first 300-level Education course.
Fall Semester Completion
No later than the last day of exams, candidates who are required to complete the portfolio at the end of the fall semester must submit for assessment each of their competencies to the appropriate professor. A professor may require an earlier date for his or her students’ submissions.
No later than the last day of exams, these fall introductory portfolio completers also will send a link to their completed portfolio to the assessment coordinator. The assessment coordinator will review the entire portfolio to document the satisfactory completion of this portfolio and to provide feedback to candidates as they look ahead to working on their “developing portfolio.” When there are particular concerns about a candidate’s portfolio, the assessment coordinator will communicate with appropriate professors, such as the candidate’s future methods professor and/or advisor.
Spring Semester Completion
No later than the last day of exams, candidates who are required to complete the portfolio at the end of the spring semester must submit for assessment each of their competencies to the appropriate professor. A professor may require an earlier date for his or her students’ submissions.
No later than the last day of exams, these spring introductory portfolio completers also will submit a link to their portfolio to an assigned professor who will review the entire portfolio, document its satisfactory completion, and provide the candidates feedback.
Before June 1, the evaluating professor will send to the assessment coordinator the following:
· a list of the candidates whose developing portfolio is satisfactory
· the link to each of the satisfactorily completed portfolios so a collection of links to each candidate’s three portfolios can be started
· a list of the candidates whose portfolios are not yet satisfactory; the assessment coordinator will work with these candidates until they satisfactorily complete their introductory portfolio
