Peer Mentors

Function

A Peer Mentor is a friend, a sounding board, an ambassador, and a guide to helping first year students make a successful transition to Luther College and improve their skills as a student.

Main Responsibilities

  • Attend required mentor training and check-ins with faculty/staff advisers
  • Attend at least one organized mentor/mentee group activity on campus; e.g. group attendance at campus event, lecture or activity.
  • Attend scheduled events sponsored by the Diversity Center
  • Connect with mentee at least four times during the semester; at least twice individually; be a resource for your mentee.
  • Ensure that contact information is updated and the mentee is familiar with the Diversity Center and the staff.
  • Complete online biweekly work reports
  • Assist with the planning of a mentee/mentor event/workshop/role play

Requirements

  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of the team
  • Ability to keep information confidential
  • Ability to work with people from different cultural background
