Reminders from LDC staff

November 2012 (November 2, 2012)

Reminders from LDC staff

November 5, 2012

As the semester begins to wind down, let’s think ahead for the next six weeks before finals.

Are you going to be on campus for either or both of Thanksgiving and Winter Breaks?  Things to remember include the fact that Dining Services will be closed for Thursday and Friday of Thanksgiving break, and for a couple of weeks during Winter Break.  You will be allowed to pick up food vouchers for Pizza Ranch and Oneota Community Co-op on the Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving, but they aren’t available for Winter Break. With that in mind how about a.....

Cooking Workshop! It is a Touchpoint too!

Johanna Bergan from the Oneota Community Co-Op will be teaching “Cooking for Breaks” in the Dieseth Kitchen from 4 -6pm on Saturday, Nov. 10th.  Please sign up in the Diversity Center.  Not only will you learn new tricks, but you get to taste them!

(If you are participating in the Touchpoint sessions don’t forget to get your booklet and have it stamped!)

International Men's Day

The theme for 2012 is 'health' with the title "Helping Men and Boys Live longer, Happier and Healthier Lives". The target areas nominated by IMD Founder Dr. Jerome Teelucksingh are:

• Improving male life expectancy;

• Helping men get help;

• Improving boys education;

• Tackling tolerance of violence against men and boys;

•  Promoting fathers and positive male role models.

The 2012 theme highlights World Health Organization figures showing that every year over half a million people die from violence and 83% of them are men and boys, and that a similar proportion of the global burden of disease (ill-health, disability or early death) from violence is borne by boys and men.

Finding a room for Winter Break.

It’s time to start looking for a room for Winter Break.  You may know (or may not remember, from Orientation) that for your safety and security, students need to move out of many of the Residence Halls during Winter Break (starting at the end of finals).  The only halls that will be open will be Dieseth, Miller, Prairie Houses, Sustainability House, College Apartments and Baker Village.  You will need to ask a friend if you can share or occupy his or her room during the break.  Upperclass students, please offer.  You remember what it was like your first year?

Leaving the Country for Winter Break?

 Don’t forget to get your I-20 signed and carry all your travel documents!  See more information about travel at:  http://reason.luther.edu/diversity/internationalinfo/currentstudents/
