The Counseling Service offers different groups each semester that focus on issues of common concern to students. Some past examples include Stress Management, Social Skills, Dealing with Anxiety, and Surviving Sexual Assault.
Groups generally meet at a regular time each week for a specific number of weeks.
Students interested in participating will meet first with the counselor leading the group to give some personal background information, talk over the content and structure of the group, and decide together if the group is a good fit.
Group participants are asked to attend regularly, participate to the best of their ability, and respect the privacy of other group members. Before joining a group, each participant is asked to promise not to share the identities or any personal information of other members.
Group counseling can help participants feel less alone, experience helping and be helped by others, and learn and grow in some ways that are different from individual counseling.
To join a group, call the Counseling Service to inquire about current groups and to arrange an intake appointment. Most groups begin early in a semester.
