Spring 2013

Dear Friends,

Happy spring! I hope your fingers and toes are starting to warm up as the sun shines a bit brighter after a cold and snowy winter. I feel like it was just days ago that I sat down to write the spring 2012 class agent letter―a sign of how busy and full life gets. I clearly remember feeling so busy when I was a student at Luther, and yet now that I am juggling work and family―especially as I try to keep up with my very energetic son―I find myself wishing to go back to being a student for a day or two.

I am so grateful that these class agent letters and all the other correspondence I receive from Luther allow me to connect to my time as a student there, and reflect on how far the college―and we―have come since then. I am closely following the search for a new college president, and I love hearing from all of you as you continue to excel in your family, work, volunteer- and faith-based lives. 

I want to sincerely thank all of you for donating to Luther College. Last year, 20 percent of you donated a total of $26,253.50 to Luther. As Luther continues to grow in so many ways, you are making a difference in the lives of students and faculty who are, in turn, making a difference in the world. I encourage each of you to consider donating to Luther this year. I know that many of us are in helping professions or do other work that doesn't provide significant compensation. Yet, any amount we give can be impressive--it raises our class giving percentage, and impresses upon other donors the commitment of alumni to Luther College. 

Thank you again for your commitment to one another and to Luther College. If you are ever in New York, our home is always open.

ALYCIA ASHBURN met with President Torgerson at American University in Washington, D.C., where she reported for Sojourner’s Magazine on the awarding of the Climate Leadership Award to Luther.

MEGAN McCall SANDE and AARON SANDE ’98 live in Eden Prairie, Minn. Megan is the lead product development manager at Target.

AMY (ALBERS) PETERSON is senior physical therapist at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

JAMISON YOUNG is chief financial officer at Summit Orthopedics in St. Paul, Minn.

JENNIE BROMELAND and Marco Agüero Jiménez welcomed twins, a daughter, Rebecca, and a son, Gabriel, in September 2011.          

LIESL (FRERIKS) and BOB CHAPLIN welcomed a son, Arthur, in June 2011.  Arthur joins brothers Hugh and Audie.

VONNIE ZACHMAN FIEDLER and Luke Fiedler welcomed a son, Marcus, in June 2012.

JEN LEE and Wakiza Gamez welcomed a daughter, Braley, in April 2011.    

ERIC KLIMPKE and SIRI THOMPSON ’01 welcomed a daughter, Charlotte, in April 2010.

SARAH MAXWELL LECKBAND and Jesse Leckband welcomed a son, Finn, in March 2012.

AMY (ALBERS) and Jonathan Peterson welcomed a son, Brock, in September 2011. 

SARAH (TVEDT) and Eric Pool welcomed a daughter, Elizabeth, in July 2012.  Elizabeth joins brother Ethan and sister Alexandra.
