Giving List

Spring 2013

Dear Luther Friends:

As I drove down the hill onto campus “the snow lay on the ground, the stars shown bright when Christ our Lord was born, on Christmas night.” While I’m sure for many students, and maybe you as well, the Christmas season seems a distant memory. But, my CD player has been stuck in Christmas mode since mid-December.

Having attended a Juletide Concert this year, (I know it’s Christmas at Luther now, but we’re still old school, right?) I have not been able to stop listening. Over and over again turns the CD of the performance in my car. Maybe it’s in part because I remember quite well heading back to Luther early at Thanksgiving for rehearsals. And I remember my whole family driving down to Decorah for a performance back in the day.

The voices, the orchestra, the bells, the organ, all in full voice still bring chills as I listen and drive. The picture in the upper right corner of this page was taken from my auditorium seat!

I am so glad to be able to offer even a small amount of support that helps this tradition of worship, learning, and service continue. For me, the Christmas performances embody and display everything that I love about Luther… students who make a difference, music that enlivens the soul, learning that changes the world, and most of all a sense of hope, that tomorrow can and will be better than yesterday. Inspirational hope.

This is why my CD player has been stuck in Christmas mode since mid-December. Hope isn’t seasonal.

Hoping you are all well, and while Christmas (and Juletide) may be a distant past, its promises of hope and light are right around the corner.

Peace,

Pastor Scott Searl
