Spring 2013
Dear Luther ’93 Classmates:
Twenty years ago:
- Schindler’s List topped the movie charts
- The Toronto Blue Jays won the World Series
- 60 Minutes, Home Improvement, and Seinfeld were our must-see TV shows
- We heard for the first time the expression “Got Milk?”
- Michael Jordan scored his 20,000th career point
- The artist we knew as Prince changed his name to a symbol (that didn’t last long)
- We watched the last episode of Cheers on May 12th, just before…
- About 500 of us launched from the Luther College experience into the world that waited.
It doesn’t seem possible, but it’s true – our twenty-year reunion will be here before we know it. I can’t wait to gather with you all from Friday, October 4 – Sunday, October 6, in the place where it all began. Here is a link to learn more about Homecoming 2013. Let’s have a great turnout from a fantastic class! http://www.luther.edu/homecoming/
As always, there is a lot going on at our alma mater, and much to be proud of. The EPA recently named Luther one of its top “green” power users. A new speech and debate center opened in Preus Library. Loyalty Hall now features an interactive display devoted to alumni veterans. Keep in mind that your thoughtful and generous giving helps enable this kind of progress. Please continue to keep Luther in mind as you consider your giving decisions. Take a few minutes to browse the website www.luther.edu to see the terrific happenings at our alma mater. Giving is easy with a couple of clicks at www.givenow.luther.edu.
Classmates, I am going to close in a less upbeat way than usual. My heart is aching this morning as I just learned of the loss of the wife of one of our classmates―Greg Ellis. Heather and Greg were married for 14 years, and as his journey has unfolded over the past few weeks, I have seen an outpouring of love and support from his friends and family, including members of the Luther community. A sobering reminder that life is short and friendships run deep – be safe, love deeply, and be well, my friends.

Don't forget your Annual Fund giving! Each year nearly 9,000 alumni, parents, and friends support the Annual Fund with gifts from $5 to $50,000. Strong support from alumni helps Luther secure additional funds from foundations and corporations, and your gift each year helps us reach our goal of 27% alumni giving. Here’s how your class—and surrounding classes—did in 2012:
Class of 1992 total giving in 2012: $34,439 from 23% of the class
Class of 1993 total giving in 2012: $25,925 from 18% of the class
Class of 1994 total giving in 2012: $56,221 from 21% of the class
Your gift can boost the impact your class has on current students! Please use the enclosed envelope or visit www.givenow.luther.edu to show your support. Thank you!
WITH SINCERE GRATITUDE:
This list includes all gifts received January 1, 2012, to December 31, 2012. Making a gift each and every year is an investment in the lives of Luther students and a show of support for the Luther College community. Thank you for your support of Luther College through your giving.
