Spring 2013
Dear Classmates of 1985,
Welcome spring 2013! It is time to think about spring cleaning, barbecues, graduations, celebrations, engagements, TAXES, and everything else that comes with the change of seasons. Those who live in the warmer climates...have no worries of the March/April snowstorms…
In addition to our personal spring freshening, the college is going through changes as well: the search for a new president; the construction of the aquatic center; a new football coach, Aaron Hafner; the Norse Pride Awards; and the discovery of the 470-million-year-old meteorite crater in Decorah.
Even with change, Luther remains solid and steadfast in its principles, ideals, and beliefs through its college curriculum, student activities, environmental responsibilities, alumni programs, student outreach, and the belief that a liberal arts education still proves to be as viable today as it was when we were attending Luther.
“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character―that is the goal of true education.”
Martin Luther King Jr. has inspired so many through his lifelong work as a civil rights advocate. Today we honor the legacy he left behind through the educational goals we seek with our students.
Remember the college relies on US to provide the support it needs to continue to provide the high quality education we expect and demand from our alma mater. Give what you can each year, and give when you can. Your contribution is always welcomed at any time of the year.

Don't forget your Annual Fund giving!
Each year nearly 9,000 alumni, parents, and friends support the Annual Fund with gifts from $5 to $50,000. Strong support from alumni helps Luther secure additional funds from foundations and corporations, and your gift each year helps us reach our goal of 27% alumni giving. Here’s how your class—and surrounding classes—did in 2012:
Class of 1984 total giving in 2012: $89,811 from 27% of the class
Class of 1985 total giving in 2012: $40,853 from 25% of the class
Class of 1986 total giving in 2012: $34,576 from 20% of the class
Your gift can boost the impact your class has on current students! Please use the enclosed envelope or visit www.givenow.luther.edu to show your support. Thank you!
WITH SINCERE GRATITUDE:
This list includes all gifts received January 1, 2012, to December 31, 2012. Making a gift each and every year is an investment in the lives of Luther students and a show of support for the Luther College community. Thank you for your support of Luther College through your giving.
