Giving List

Spring 2013

It’s Count Down Time...to the Golden Anniversary Reunion of the Class of 1963 ...October 4-6, 2013!

In January nearly twenty of our classmates met on the Luther campus and via Internet technology to make plans for the reunion gathering. It’s a great group doing a fun job planning a memorable weekend with you in mind. It’s all about re-connecting, remembering, and having fun.

On Friday afternoon we’ll come together for a “welcome” reception. Saturday, classmate Dave Carlson will emcee our luncheon. Saturday evening classmate Christina Vignec Winch is going to emcee the Class of 1963 Reunion Dinner. You will receive a packet of reunion details well in advance, so watch your snail-mail.

Also, a member of the planning group will be calling you to talk about the Golden Anniversary Class Gift. The class gift is a long-standing tradition, an opportunity to express gratitude and to invest in the future of Luther College. Give thought to how you can support the gift. No matter the amount you give, know that your gift counts―all gifts are important! Thanks in advance.

By the time you read this letter, Luther may have a new president and Catholics should have a new Pope. Changes in leadership are bitter-sweet. Luther has been masterfully served by Rick and Judy Torgerson, and we join in wishing them good health and good times going forward.

Now, set this letter aside and begin your preparations for our Class of 1963 Golden Anniversary Reunion. Thankfully, at our ages, we’re beyond losing weight and buying new outfits in preparation! We come as we are.

How to prepare? Mark your calendar, make your travel and lodging arrangements. Call the Alumni Office if lodging is a problem. Complete and return the biographical form included in this letter. Go though the yearbook to practice names and faces. Reflect on your time at Luther – the people and the formative experiences. Come prepared to marvel at the growth and development of the campus. Come to share.  Send the Alumni Office photographs from your personal collection for inclusion in the slide show the College will be producing for our dinner program.  Come to affirm the unchanged essence of Luther College. Come!

Be in touch if you have questions or comments. It’s always a treat hearing from you.  I’m really looking forward to our time together in October.

CARSON ODE published the book Celebrate IOWA. While researching the book, he attended more than 100 Iowa festivals and events in a two-year time period. With more than 2,000 photos, the book depicts activities such as a NASCAR Nationwide Series race, RAGBRAI, Decorah’s Nordic Fest, multiple music festivals, and the Iowa State Fair.

Don't forget your Annual Fund giving!
Each year nearly 9,000 alumni, parents, and friends support the Annual Fund with gifts from $5 to $50,000. Strong support from alumni helps Luther secure additional funds from foundations and corporations, and your gift each year helps us reach our goal of 27% alumni giving.  Here’s how your class—and surrounding classes—did in 2012:

Class of 1962 total giving in 2012:  $130,024 from 60% of the class

Class of 1963 total giving in 2012:  $107,423 from 41% of the class

Class of 1964 total giving in 2012:  $420,129 from 35% of the class

Your gift can boost the impact your class has on current students!  Please use the enclosed envelope or visit www.givenow.luther.edu to show your support.  Thank you!

WITH SINCERE GRATITUDE:
This list includes all gifts received January 1, 2012, to December 31, 2012. Making a gift each and every year is an investment in the lives of Luther students and a show of support for the Luther College community.  Thank you for your support of Luther College through your giving.
