Class of 2010 Fall Letter

Fall 2012

Dear Fellow Norse!

Happy Fall to the Class of 2010!

During the first weekend in October, Luther alumni and professors gathered together to celebrate Luther’s homecoming. While on campus, visitors got to see some big changes! From the last dorm renovation of Dieseth Hall to the completion of Bentdahl Commons, to the progress on Luther’s new aquatic center, which will boast an 8-lane Myrtha competition pool (slated to open in the summer of 2013!), to the progress the Luther’s solar field, the largest in Iowa, alumni and visitors got to relish in Luther’s mission to faith and learning, helping Northeast Iowa and the world.

Homecoming was memorable for many this year! Luther’s first-year students came together for the first time to celebrate as Norse. The first-year class comprises 645 students from 26 countries.  This celebration, however, also marks the last Homecoming for President Rick Torgerson and his wife, Judy. The Torgersons plan to leave Luther after this school year, culminating a fourteen-year term of leadership. They will focus on spending time with their grandchildren and working to support their favorite charitable causes. We would like to take this moment, on behalf of the Class of 2010, to thank the Torgersons for all their years of leadership, thus making Luther such a special and memorable place!

As we continue to make our own paths in this world, whether that includes new jobs, further education, marriage, children, or just waiting to see where life takes us let us not forget the place that gave us our great start out into the “real” world. Luther relies heavily on alumni to help provide this high-quality, worldly education to new students each year. If you have already decided to help support Luther’s Annual Fund, Thank You! Your gifts really do make a difference.  Last year, 915 gifts, for a total of $195,362, arrived in class agent letter envelopes and as online gifts to Luther’s Annual Fund, from Luther alumni.  If have not made a pledge, please consider it.  For more information on the Annual Fund, please visit  We would also like to hear what you are doing.  As a result, please remember to keep in touch!

Soli Deo Gloria! GO NORSE!!

Don’t forget your Annual Fund giving!

Each year nearly 9,500 alumni, parents, and friends support the Annual Fund with gifts from $5 to $50,000.  Strong support from alumni helps Luther secure additional funds from foundations and corporations, and your gift each year helps us to reach our goal of 27% alumni giving to the Annual Fund.  Here’s how your class is doing so far this year:

Have you made your 2012 gift to Luther?  Only 53 more gifts are needed to reach 27% for your class.  Please visit to make a difference for Luther students.  Thank you!

Please note: Your Spring 2013 class agent letter will include a listing of your classmates who gave to Luther during 2012.  Be sure to make your gift before December 31 to be included.
