Class of 1983 Fall Letter

Fall 2012

Dear Classmates,

I hope this letter finds you well and enjoying autumn.  I, (Martha) especially enjoyed Luther's homecoming weekend in October. We had a three-generation family reunion while there.  My dad and mother-in-law were celebrating their 55th class reunion, our daughters were back to see friends, and we enjoyed seeing the class of 1982 and even meeting some of their children who are attending Luther.  The fall foliage was spectacular; I think campus is at the peak of beauty in the fall.  Mabe's tasted delicious and we could not pass up a Whippy Dip, even though temperatures were in the 40s!  Being back on campus made me so excited for our reunion next year at Homecoming 2013, October 4-6.  Thirty years! Doesn't seem possible...we might all look just a little bit different, but you will be transported right back to college days once you return.  Check out our class Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/groups/LC1983, and reconnect with friends, post pictures, make plans to attend the reunion, get excited!  You can also check out lodging here.

I want to congratulate our class for achieving top ten ranking in total gifts given to the Annual Fund in 2011: $28,998.95.  This is a terrific accomplishment for our class!  This support is really impacting Luther's national standings in many areas, and large corporate and private foundations are supporting Luther in grants and funding based on our alumni giving. Luther received the 2012 Climate Leadership Award; the Howard Hughes Medical Institute selected Luther to receive a $1.5M grant for its science education Preparing Future K-12 Teachers program—an amazing accolade for the college; and Luther is now ranked among the top 100 liberal arts colleges in the U.S. The Dieseth Hall renovation was completed this summer, and now all the residence halls have had a facelift.  Construction has started on the aquatic center and will be complete in summer 2013.  The campus is so beautiful with the new buildings and landscaping done. I hope you are in the number of classmates who are donating—122—if not, join us!  We could raise our class giving by 1 percent if just 5 more classmates donated.  All gifts are important, $5.00-$500.00; the fact you contribute makes the difference.  Wouldn't it be great if the class of 1983 made the top ten list in class participation?  Luther's continued success is exciting and rewarding; thank you for your support.

Don’t forget your Annual Fund giving!

Each year nearly 9,500 alumni, parents, and friends support the Annual Fund with gifts from $5 to $50,000.  Strong support from alumni helps Luther secure additional funds from foundations and corporations, and your gift each year helps us to reach our goal of 27% alumni giving to the Annual Fund.  Here’s how your class is doing so far this year:

CLASS OF 1983 TOTAL GIVING: $63,342.13 FROM 13% OF THE CLASS*

Have you made your 2012 gift to Luther?  Only 65 more gifts are needed to reach 27% for your class.  Please visit www.givenow.luther.edu to make a difference for Luther students.  Thank you!

Please note: Your Spring 2013 class agent letter will include a listing of your classmates who gave to Luther during 2012.  Be sure to make your gift before December 31 to be included.
