Since dentistry needs individuals with a diversity of educational backgrounds and a wide variety of talents and interests, an attempt is made to plan an individual program for each student. A sample program is illustrated in the dental brochure which is available from the predental advisors.

Luther College advocates a preprofessional program that aims to develop the student's intellectual abilities and to provide both scientific and cultural preparation. Courses in language, literature, the fine arts, social studies, religion, and philosophy provide cultural background, while courses in the sciences and mathematics give the basic foundation required for scientific study and practice of dentistry. The dental student usually majors in biology and/or chemistry; however, a major in another discipline can be arranged. Predental advising is available to students in both the biology and chemistry departments.
