Institute in American Studies for Scandinavian Educators
This summer institute, held annually since 1964, is attended by 4050 teachers from the countries of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. The Institute concentrates on contemporary life in this nation, both its problems and its potential. Lectures are presented on a wide variety of topics, such as American literature, American society, the American political-economic system, immigration, the educational system, minorities, foreign policies, the churches, native Americans, language dialects, and others. The course, unique in American higher education, is offered at the postbaccalaureate level of instruction.
