Credit by Special Examination and Advanced PlacementIn order to provide a means whereby a mature student may obtain credit in a subject in which he or she has attained mastery through intensive private study or experience, the college has instituted a system of credit by comprehensive examination. For credit earned by special examination the charge is $50 per course. Each academic department is responsible for establishing eligibility requirements for the examinations and for administering them. Credit by examination is available for most courses offered on campus but the student should discuss the course requirements with the department head. Some academic departments will award advanced placement credit based on successful completion of coursework in the department. For example, advanced placement credit in mathematics is dependent on successful completion of a second or third calculus course. Advanced placement credit in computer science is dependent on successful completion of computer science 151 or one of the other computer science courses required for the major. Computer science 150 is the lowest numbered course for which advanced placement credit will be considered. |
