Writing Resumés & Cover Letters
In a partnership with OptimalResume.com® Luther College students and alumni have access to web-based software to help them create and manage resumes, cover letters, and other types of job search correspondence. This service is particularly helpful to those who are writing a resume or cover letter for the first time! As always, it is wise to have your job search documents reviewed by a career counselor prior to sending them out to prospective employers. So, whether you need a resume for an internship, full-time job, or graduate school application, OptimalResume.com can help get you started in the right direction!
To create an account on OptimalResume.com:
- Go to https://luther.optimalresume.com/.
- Please find the Login box on the left side of the page – Click the link that says “New Users Click Here”
- You will be taken to the “Validation” page. Enter your @luther.edu e-mail address and click the “Continue” button. (Clicking this button automatically generates a random code that is immediately sent to your Luther College email account.)
- Next, a “Code Validation” screen will appear which will prompt you for your e-mail and the code.
- Go to your e-mail account and retrieve the code. Then, enter it in the provided field on the “Code Validation” page, along with your e-mail address. Once you have entered the information, click the “Submit” button.
- Complete the User Profile – (The e-mail and password you enter in the Profile will allow access to your account [via the Login box on Luther’s OptimalResume homepage] from this point forward.)
- Located on your Student Desktop, you’ll see an area called the “Document Center” where you can create resumes, letters and websites.
- Video and PDF tutorials, which provide detailed instructions on how to use the applications, are located in the Help box on the right side of the page.
