Prepare for life after Luther.

Entering the Job Market

  1. Finalize your job search plan.
    1. Research companies and organizations and the opportunities they offer.
      1. Write letters of inquiry to prospective employers, send follow-up letters, and make phone calls.
      2. Utilize your job search network of alums, family, and friends.
    2. Join professional organization(s) in your career field. Attend and present at conferences and other events.
    3. Update your personal profile on Luther's CareerConnection portal and search for employment opportunities.
    4. Invest a little time each day to your job search. A productive job search may take as much time as a four-credit class.
    5. Participate in the Fall Career Fair, Spring Career Fair, on-campus recruiting, and ICoRN events.
    6. Professionalize your resume for post-graduate plans. Schedule an appointment with a Career Counselor to have your resume and cover letter critiqued, tailoring it to every position.
    7. Practice your interviewing skills.

      2. Schedule a mock interview.
      3. View Job Search videos on interviews: Before, After, and Dress.
  2. Obtain career-related experience through a part-time job, internship, or research experience.
  3. Attend the "Grad Finale" in the Union in April to complete the Post-Graduate Plans Survey and to pick up your cap and gown!

Entering Graduate School

  1. Finalize your graduate school search plan.
    1. Create a final list of graduate programs.
    2. Register and complete graduate admissions exams.
    3. Participate in a Graduate School Mock Interview.
    4. Complete graduate school application forms.
      1. Retain and obtain faculty recommendations.
      2. Complete personal statements and admissions essays.
      3. Apply for graduate assistantships and financial aid.
    5. Once accepted, send in your deposit and notify other schools of your decision.
  2. Attend the "Grad Finale" in the Union in April to complete the Post-Graduate Plans Survey and to pick up your cap and gown!
