Post-Graduate Highlights of Class of 2010

Below are highlights from the “Post-Graduation Activities Report Class of 2010.”

At this time the U.S. economy was in the midst of recovering from the worst recession since the early 1980’s, evidenced by an unemployment rate that remained over 9% throughout the year. Even so, the overall class was very competitive in terms of obtaining employment, enrolling in selective graduate programs, and volunteering with prestigious organizations.

Post-Graduation activities:

  • A total response rate of 90.4% was achieved from the survey.
  • Post college activities for the grads fell into six categories:
    --Employed (58%)
    --Graduate/Professional School (22%)
    --Volunteer (7%)
    --Continuing Education (6%)
    --Still Seeking (4%)

Are grads doing what they want to do?

  • 78% of the graduates who reported working full-time are in positions and doing work that is related to their career goals. If you assume that students enrolled in graduate school and those continuing education are engaged in “career-related” activities (and one would certainly hope so) this percentage jumps to 85%.
  • Luther students are provided with more than coaching and advising on how to get a job. Students are challenged and supported to think about their interests, gifts, talents, and values as they make decisions about their work life after Luther.

Graduates pursuing further education

  • Members of the class of 2010 are currently studying at some of the finest research universities in the U.S., such as Johns Hopkins University, New York University, and Princeton University.

Student Internships

  • Fifty-eight percent of Luther students engaged in internships, student teaching, or other clinical/practicum experiences while at Luther.
