International Service

Peace Corps |

  • The Peace Corps has three goals: to help people in 77 interested host
countries by providing trained individuals, to promote a better
understanding of Americans by those served and to promote a better
understanding of people served by Americans. There are six program
areas: education, youth and community development, health, business
and information and communications technology, agriculture, and
environment. For 27 months of service volunteers receive transition
funds, free travel, living allowance, vacation days, medical and
dental, and health insurance. There is no participation fee and some
loans are eligible for deferment or partial cancellation.
  • Not sure if you would like to pursue the Peace Corps or graduate school? You may not have to choose! There are also 2 unique programs that offer a Peace Corps experience partnered with a graduate study program: Master's International and The Paul D. Coverdell Fellows Program. With Master's International, there are 80 academic institutions that have partnered with Peace Corps so a volunteer who is accepted into both the graduate school and the Peace Corps may spend only a year on campus and then two years abroad to complete his or her master's degree. The Paul D. Coverdell Fellows Program is available to those who have decided to pursue graduate school after serving in the Peace Corps. This program, in conjunction with 50 participating campuses, offers former Peace Corps volunteers financial assistance.
