Andrea Beckendorf

As the Research and Instruction Librarian for Preus Library, Andi Beckendorf works to coordinate campus-wide requests for library instruction. Some of her instructional duties include working with first year instruction (specifically with the Paideia research unit), helping with Senior papers, preparing discipline-based library instruction, and promoting the library through outreach. As a librarian, she is liaison to the Chemistry, Modern Languages, Literatures & Linguistics, Music, Physics, Nordic Studies, and Russian Studies departments.

As part of the first-year seminar offerings at Luther, she has taught courses on visual literacy and on censorship. She has also supervised library internships for students, including those interested in music librarianship. Andi recently completed a sabbatical project that involved study of the Norwegian and Norwegian-American materials in Preus Library to determine the scope and strengths of the collection and to explore possibilities for integrating these materials into the Luther College curriculum. As part of her library duties, Andi coordinates the Rare Book Room collection, including gifts and tours.
