Luther College Moment in History #100

The year 2011 marked the Luther College Sesquicentennial, or 150th Anniversary. This photo from the 150th Birthday Bash shows the featured Sesquicentennial Cake with President Torgerson, senior art major and cake creator Kelsey Simpkins, and members of the Student Activities Council. Some key events from the year include Dr. Ole Petter Ottersen (University of Oslo) giving the opening convocation address for Spring semester, special lecture by Anna Deavere Smith in honor of the 75th anniversary of co-education at Luther, a 150 kilometer Sesquicentennial relay race, the Norwegian-American Historical Association of Norway’s 11th seminar, the All-Band Alumni Reunion, a Royal Convocation honoring the visit of Norway’s King Harald V and Queen Sonja to Decorah, the History Walk live performances reenacting pieces of Luther’s history, and the student performance of Luther Sketches that took a comedic look at various Luther moments.
