The Fear of Islam

The Fear of Islam

April 5, 2013 at 4:44 pm

Todd Green, Assistant Professor of Religion
For several decades, much has been made of the possibility that Islam and the West are engaged in a ‘clash of civilizations.’ In much of the public discourse in the United States and Europe, a prevalent assumption is that Islam is a violent, misogynist, and anti-democratic ideology, completely at odds with Western values. Are these concerns reflections of historical reality, or are they manifestations of ‘Islamophobia’ (i.e., an irrational fear of Islam and Muslims)? A four-part course. Participants will receive a copy of John L. Esposito’s and Dalia Mogahed’s Who Speaks for Islam? What a Billion Muslims Really Think
