Is the American model of politics and economics a worthy template for the pursuit of happiness?  In this four part course, we will pursue answers to this question from various perspectives.  We will consider what makes people happy and whether democracy and economic growth have made Americans happy.  We will examine the consequences to the environment of extending the economic growth model of happiness to China, India, Brazil and other parts of the developing world.  Finally, we will look at alternative paths to happiness.
