Come join the “Lutherlag Swimming Pool Book Club!” We meet under the shade of the old oak tree near the Decorah Municipal Swimming Pool to share afternoon conversations around “new” popular fiction releases. We’ll sip some iced lemonade, relax on comfortable blankets and lawn chairs, nibble a few snacks, and share our thoughts and reflections on three shared titles. Knowing voracious readers, the conversation will likely extend beyond our meeting time into the Decorah swimming pool for a refreshing dip as participants enthusiastically share about other recent favorite “reads.” All are welcome. Participants will be notified of the three titles of shared reads by June 15. You are encouraged to borrow or purchase the books prior to coming to Book Club… but reading into the wee hours of the night before is fine, too. The “short list” from which we will select three titles to discuss includes:
In the Garden of the Beasts, by Erik Larson
Wild, by Cheryl Strayed
Language of Flowers, by Vanessa Diffenbaugh
My Beloved World, by Justice Sonia Sotomayor
Heart Mender, by Andy Andrews
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, by Rebecca Skloot
As this is a democratic book club, you may contact the facilitator at petekr05@luther.edu with your “vote” or other selection ideas prior to June 15, 2013.
