Des Moines Area Luncheon and Speaker Series

The college is hosting a new luncheon and speaker series for all alumni, parents and friends of the college. Please join us for this great opportunity to network and socialize with others in the Des Moines area and learn from interesting and dynamic speakers.
Our speaker for Friday, April 27th is Peg Armstrong-Gustafson, owner and founder of Amson Technology in Des Moines.
The Road from Kyoto to Rio: One Person’s Journey to Feed Hungry People and Fight Climate Change
Speaker Peg Armstrong-Gustafson will share a personal experience of working in sustainability and climate change. She will give a brief background on the climate change situation and the importance of the Kyoto Treaty. She will share her experience of working with the United Nations on attaining the first agricultural methodology for a carbon offset project to reduce carbon emissions and mitigate global warming. In addition, she will share why a price for carbon is important in order to get technology to third world countries to battle hunger. Armstrong-Gustafson will share her perspective on the United Nations meeting in Rio in June 2012 where the focus will be on sustainable development and the global impending food crisis as the population grows to 9 billion.
All people are called to be stewards of creation. Attendees will explore their beliefs about climate change and the impact on the planet; what each of us can do to make a difference; and why we might all need to make dramatic changes in how we live our lives in order to ensure a healthy planet for future generations. All should leave believing in the power of one and the hope of many.
The events will be held at the Windsor Heights Community Center at 6900 School Street in Windsor Heights. Lunch is served buffet-style starting at 11:30 a.m.; the program begins at 12:00 p.m. The cost is $15 per person.
Walk-ins are welcome, but to help us plan for numbers, your pre-registration is appreciated! Please register online by Tuesday, April 24th.
