My Favorite Study Place

The first location I tried was in Main. Many friends have told me that the 5th floor of Main is an excellent place to do your work. I decided to try it out. I walked to Main and soon realized that I would have to walk up MANY flights of steps. You can ask any of my friends how I feel about physical activity and they will tell you just how much I hate it. By the second flight of stairs, I was already feeling skeptical about my possibly new place to study. I eventually made it to the fifth floor and I began my work. A couple minutes into studying, I started to look out the window. The view was too beautiful not to! I began to get lost in my thoughts. Minutes passed. I snapped out of my haze and looked at my watch. I had been dozing off for twenty minutes! I quickly gathered my things and left. The view was just too good.

The second location I decided to try was the quiet floor in the library. I thought the lack of distractions and silence would help me focus. Boy was I wrong! The moment I began studying, I felt overwhelmed by the lack of noise. I started looking around, expecting anything to happen. I started feeling anxious because I wanted something, ANYTHING, to happen. It made me realize that too much silence didn’t work for me.

Hopeless, I decided that I should try studying in Koren after my Tuesday class. I went to a room full of couches and tables and began my work. I sat on one of the couches and felt so comfortable. I could hear the conversations happening outside of the room but I couldn’t make out any of the words. Studying in Koren provided just the right amount of commotion for me to feel like I wasn’t alone. The room also had a small window that provided natural light. The large windows in Main made it so distracting for me to focus. The Preus Library was too quiet. But Koren was just right. Perhaps it is because most of my classes are in that building. Going to a familiar place to study helped me focus better. Overall, finding a new and comfortable place to study was beneficial for me and allowed me to get my work done.
