Happiness, Philosophizing, and Candy Slugs

Hello everyone!

I hope you’re having a great week!  Things are just peachy here at Luther, so I thought I’d give you an update on what I’ve been up to lately.

First off, I’ve started attending Philosophy Society.  I have never taken a philosophy course in my life, but a friend invited me to attend, and…I just kept showing up.  The society congregates once a week to talk about – what else? – philosophy.

Topics of meetings I have attended include dualism, human anatomy, and Heidegger.  We also attended a lecture last week by some Princeton philosophy professors.  And we had a fantastic game night the other day, with pizza and music and telephone Pictionary!  (Apparently last semester, they also had a Toga Dinner, which was brilliantly captured in this photograph.)

Secondly, last week was both Happiness Week and National Library Week, which meant happy chalk art and the annual Preus Library Book Sale.  I’m a big fan of both.

Thirdly, I’ve been doing lots of RA stuff lately.  I made a new bulletin board for April (about breakfast!) and hosted a Harry Potter program for the girls on my floor.  Themed candy (licorice wands, candy slugs, chocolate galleons, etc.) and origami howler patterns were provided, as well as music and trivia and general merriment.  Plus, this weekend, some fellow RAs and I are going to dinner at our hall director’s house as a prize for winning the monthly bulletin board contest.  We’re having lasagna, and I’m very excited about this.  Especially because I will get to pet my boss’s dog, Puggy Sue, who wears sweaters and has her own Facebook page.

So those are some things that are new in my life!  Whether it’s visiting book sales or joining new clubs, I find there’s always something new and exciting to do on campus, and that’s made this semester a really great one for me.

I hope you have a fantastic week!

Cheers,

Jillian
