On-Campus Destinations!

Hello everyone!

I hope you’re having a great day today!

Things here at Luther have been going along swimmingly.  The weather has been alternately sunshiny and drizzly, and altogether unpredictable.  But the sun lasted long enough on Sunday for me to go for a walk, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Walking around Luther’s campus is one of my favorite things to do when I have spare time.  So, for todays’ post, I’m going to give you a glimpse of some of my favorite places to walk!

First up, we have Anderson Prairie.  This is right next to Baker Village, and it’s got lots of tall grasses and pretty wildflowers.  I’ve seen people do photo shoots back there, since it looks very scenic.  It’s not a huge area, but it’s got some nice mowed paths that lead to Baker and into Hickory Ridge Woods beyond.

The paths in Hickory Ridge Woods are also really nice!  I first encountered them in my biology class last semester, when we were learning to identify trees.  (The woods, in case you were wondering, have lots of trees, thus making them well-suited for this purpose.)  Autumn is an especially pretty time to hike in this area, but it’s lovely at all times of year.

Closer to the central part of campus is a lovely grassy path along the river.  There’s even a tiny peninsula that juts out into the water that you can walk on, and sometimes I see people fishing there.  I can’t wait to walk there again when there are leaves on the trees!

There is also a very pleasant copse of trees behind the Center for the Arts, which are perfect for climbing.  Sometimes I do homework in an evergreen tree back there!  And if you’re not into tree-climbing, there’s a circular stone bench between the CFA and Koren that is also a great homework spot.

But by far the most popular walking destination among Luther students this past week was the Whippy Dip!  While a Whippy Walk will technically take you off campus, it’s really right around the corner (and well worth the added steps to get there).  The Whippy Dip just reopened on March 28th, so everyone has been excited to have their first ice cream treat of the season.

So those are some of the places I enjoy walking while I’m here at Luther!  While this is by no means a comprehensive list (the whole campus is marvelous, and there are many hiking trails off campus as well), I hope it gives you an idea of how pretty Luther really is!

And with that, I will bid you adieu.  The homework calls….

Have a fantastic week!
