Hello everybody! I hope you’re having a Happy February and staying warm in this chilly weather!
Since Valentine’s Day is approaching, I thought I would use this post to express some Valentine love for Luther. I will attempt to do so through some poorly (by which I mean expertly) written poetry, for your amusement. Each poem is dedicated to something that I love about Luther or Decorah right now.
Rhyme for Student Activities
Roses are Red.
Violets are Blue.
Campus is freezing
But there’s still lots to do.
Haiku for My “World of St. Patrick” Class
Why wear a helmet?
The ancient Romans did it,
And it looks awesome.
Sonnet for Ronnie’s Rolls, Sold at Ruby’s Downtown (And also Sunnyside at Luther, I think)
Oh, Ronnie’s Rolls, you are so very good.
You are truly a most beautiful sight.
I like you more than I probably should,
But I will not regret a single bite.
I really wish I had your recipe.
Whatever it is, nobody’s telling.
But could I reproduce such artistry,
Or that cinnamon-y way you’re smelling?
I seriously doubt it, Ronnie’s Roll,
You swirling, delicious delicacy.
Just one of you makes my heart feel full.
And also my stomach. For you must see,
A Ronnie’s Roll will always pass the test;
There’s a reason why you’re Iowa’s best.
Free Verse for the Ellison Paper Cutter in the Union
I don’t know
If any of you have used
The Ellison Paper Cutter
In the Union, but
It cuts shapes
Out of paper
In two seconds
That would take
To cut by hand.
My best friend.
Limerick for Don Jose’s in Downtown Decorah
There once was a place to get food
And instantly brighten your mood.
With a nacho (or twenty)
And tacos a plenty,
It was Don José’s…always so good….
Acrostic for Luther
Lovely place to be, with
Unlimited new experiences
Here in the Oneota Valley, an
Excellent place to learn and
Thus concludes my love poetry for Luther College. I hope you enjoyed it (and didn’t look too closely at my meter)!
Happy Valentine’s Day to you all!
