I hope you’re having a wonderful day! My day has been really great so far – I just finished registering for classes, and it looks like next semester is going to be another great term. Also, Luther is celebrating both Happiness Week and National Library Week right now, which seems only natural, because libraries are happiness.
When flyers first started coming out about Happiness Week, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I thought maybe there would be a lecture about getting enough sleep or something. But Happiness Week turned out to be a lot more than that!
On Monday, there was yoga on the Library Lawn and a booth outside the Caf encouraging people to send compliments to each other’s SPO boxes. Tuesday, the speech and debate club provided bubble-blowing supplies outside of the Union (“speech bubbles”) and the Diversity Center had cake!
On Wednesday, there were paint-your-own flower pots outside the Union and free freeze pops. And today, music is playing from loudspeakers in front of the library, which is drifting in through my dorm room window!
For Friday, we are encouraged to high-five everyone we see – it’s going to be great!
Happiness Week is so much fun, and I really hope it continues to be an annual event! It has really put everyone in a great mood, and the beautiful weather here doesn’t hurt either. If you’d like to learn more about how Happiness Week began at Luther, you can read all about it in this Chips article!
As for National Library Week, Preus Library is having a book sale, with book prices dropping every day of the week. The funniest book I saw was this winner called Interstellar Pig:
The combination of the title and the cover art had me and all of the librarians laughing. I decided that if Interstellar Pig was still for sale by Friday, when books are a dollar or less, I would buy it, but some lucky customer has already purchased this 1990’s intergalactic farm animal adventure. Alas.
The library also sold cute house plants in a variety of adorable mugs on Monday. Plus, the main floor of Preus is decorated with posters about reading and libraries, which makes everything very festive!
I’m so glad that we got to celebrate both happiness and libraries this week! Both are so important to the Luther community, and I’m so glad I go to a school where reading books and being happy is valued!
I hope you all have a very happy happiness week as well!
And now I’m off to do some statistics homework!
