About Me

Izzy Michaud

Year: Sophomore
Majors:
Biology/Environmental Studies
Hometown:
Wheaton, IL

What activities are you involved in outside of academics?
I am a member of Eco Club, AYNAY, and the Catholic Student Community (CSC). I am also obsessed with running, hiking, and biking all around Decorah, reading books while hanging out in my Eno, and working in the Luther gardens for work study.

What do you and your friends do in your free time?
We go exploring Decorah, whether that means hiking the beautiful trails, window-shopping downtown, or just chilling at the Oneota Co-op.

If someone was interested in your major, what course(s) or professor(s) would you recommend?
I plan on a double majoring in Biology and Environmental Studies and would highly recommend any class that Jon Jensen teaches. He is truly living out what he teaches us in the classroom.

Where’s the best place to study on campus?
I love sitting out on the terrace in the Union, especially in the evening right before the sunset.

What’s your go-to line in the caf when you don’t like what’s in the main line?
Surprisingly, the gluten-free section usually has some awesome meals.

What’s your favorite Luther tradition?
I haven’t been here long enough to experience all the awesome traditions yet, but I’ve picked up the Luther chant pretty well and I’ve gone to the Whippy Dip way too many times in the last couple weeks.

What do you miss about Luther when you go home?
The view from the Caf every morning at breakfast.

What’s your favorite part about going to college at Luther?
I love being part of such a wonderful community. People here are just genuinely good people.

What's your wackiest Luther memory?
My roommate was attempting to finish her Paideia book, but she was really sleepy (not sure if the book was the cause of her fatigue) and she fell asleep. But here’s the kicker; she had been leaning back in her desk chair, and went head first backwards. Her “falling asleep” ultimately led to her falling off her chair.

What do you want to do after you graduate from Luther?
I plan to become a soil biologist and work with farmers to address issues of soil erosion and deterioration. My ultimate goal would be to own my own organic farm and work as a writer on the side.
