As a high schooler, I always wondered what a “typical day” was like for a college student. I thought this would be a good time to share what a “typical day” is like for me. This is what an average Tuesday looks like:
8:30am-8:45am: Wake up and get ready for the day.
8:50am-9:30am: Class—Ear Training. Ear training is a class that is taken along with music theory. Ear Training works to develop musicians' ears and skills by doing sight singing, rhythmic exercises, and dictation exercises.
9:30am-11:00am: Break/Practice time. This chuck of time is called shadow block no one has any classes. This time is generally used for meetings. I normally use this time to practice my music or work on homework.
11am-11:30 am: Lunch in the Caf. I don’t have as many classes on Tuesdays And Thursdays as I do Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays so I take advantage of the extra time to eat lunch in the Caf.
11:45am-1:25pm: I still have a break during this time. I generally use this free time to do homework and study, however, sometimes I accidently fall asleep and end up taking a quick nap.
1:35pm-2:15pm: Class—Piano. In Class Piano you learn the fundamentals of how to play the piano, this is especially important for music majors who have to pass a piano proficiency exam.
2:30pm-4:00pm: Band. This is when Varsity Band rehearses. I love being in band and making amazing music so many people. This is always one of my favorite parts of the day.
4:00pm-4:30pm: Break. I have a break after band that I use to eat a snack and get ready for work.
4:45pm-9:00pm: Work study. I work in the Caf, on Tuesday’s I work in the dishroom.
9:00pm-11:45pm: Homework. I finish up any homework I have due on Wednesday before getting ready to go to bed.
I chose to show you guys what my Tuesday is like because it is somewhat normal for people to have breaks between their classes instead of going to class back-to-back like in high school. I like to take advantage of these breaks and get my homework done so that I do not have to stay up too late finishing it. No day is really “typical” for me, each week I have a different amount of homework and different things going on and my day changes and can be busier than this or sometimes even less busy. One thing I love about college is the constant change and that no two weeks are ever the same. I also had a lot of choice when picking my classes and my work schedule so I was able to create a schedule that works out pretty well for me.
