As everyone back home celebrated Thanksgiving, it was a little different over here across the pond, where they don’t really acknowledge such a thing, so we had our own version called Flats-giving! It was not quite the same but pretty great if I do say so myself.

It's begining to look a lot like Christmas

Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook are clearly telling me that it is looking a lot like Christmas back in the states from all the snow pictures! Across the pond however, there may not be snow but it sure looks like Christmas. Nottingham had their big light switch-on this evening and now the city centre is a magical wonderland of Christmas-ness. I am still not quite sure how I feel about all of this considering we haven’t even had Thanksgiving yet but it was undeniably beautiful.

Diwali: Festival of Lights

Have you ever heard of a celebration called Diwali? If you haven’t, I’m not too surprised. At least where I’m from, Hindu is not a very common religion, therefore Diwali is not really celebrated. The area of Nottingham has a pretty large Indian population and this ends up being a pretty big celebration!! Also, it is breathtakingly beautiful.

Remember, Remember the 5th of November

A night of flames is the best way to describe the 5th of November. It is also called bonfire night and includes a huge bonfire with fireworks leading up to and following it. It is quite the spectacle that people of all ages love and celebrate every year. I mean, who doesn’t love fireworks? Except maybe dogs and small children…. If fireworks are your thing, the 5th of November is the day for you!

Volunteering is Good for the Soul

Although we are technically required to have a certain amount of volunteer hours while we are over here, I was planning on volunteering anyway because it is a great way to get to know and contribute to your community! I am a big advocate for volunteering because I really do believe that volunteering can change your life.

Rainy Day? Not a Problem!

To some, a rainy day is a good excuse to stay in and veg out. You would think that being in a country like England, where it rains quite a bit more than in the U.S., I would not be affected by this and decide to go out and do something with my life. Well, you would be wrong.
