This Weekend

I had such a fun weekend!

After class on Friday, my friend Katie and I drove to Northfield to spend the night before heading up to the Nobel Peace Prize Forum in Minneapolis the following morning. We were able to stop at Chipotle on the way home, where I actually ran into a friend from Decorah, as well as one of my good friend's mom and brother! In Northfield, Katie and I went to yoga, did some homework at a coffee shop, and just soaked up time on the couch with home-cooked food.

On Saturday, we woke up early (to freshly made french toast and scrambled eggs) and headed off to Minneapolis for the Peace Prize Forum. The Keynote Speaker was His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, and it was so incredible and inspiring to hear him speak. One of my favorite parts was his discussion on nonviolence and compassion - two things that I have been focusing on a lot lately while trying to live my yoga. I wrote, "you always have the opportunity to create peace in your surroundings - this peace will multiply and transcend throughout the world. We can always promote peace and nonviolence (ahimsa) -- talk, compromise, dialoge. We need a tireless effort from every person toward peace". After listening to the Dalai Lama, we went to another session from a Tibetan monk before heading back to Northfield and eventually back to Decorah.

Saturday night was spent catching up with some of my favorite people in the world - the friends I made on my J-term trip! It was nice to get a big group of us together to hang out and talk and reminisce --  it is such a fun group of people, and I am so glad that we are still friends now!

This morning (Sunday), Ali, one of my friends from my J-term trip, and I went to Big Canoe Lutheran Church to talk to their youth group about our time in the Holy Land. We were both pretty nervous about talking about these things (as so many of the issues are complicated and we don't fully understand them), but as soon as we began to talk we both found we had so much to say! We definitely could have kept going for more than an hour. After church, Ali and I went to Peace Brunch in the Union where we had mimosas, eggs benedict, and dessert, which was incredible.

While this whole weekend has been incredible, it has left me with a LOT of homework to get done today -- hopefully I can motivate myself to get everything done before the Academy Awards tonight!
