Christmas at Luther

Remember when I said that a couple weeks ago was the most stressful time of the year?

I was wrong.

Rehearsals for Christmas at Luther (“CAL”, as many students call it) are in full swing. Yesterday we had a 6-hour rehearsal, minus a 45-minute dinner break, which was a weird mixture of excitement and fatigue. Choir has had a couple mass rehearsals already, but yesterday was the first time we got to rehearse with the orchestra. Upon first hearing the orchestra, there was an obvious change in the mood of the room. Every song sounded much more lively and exciting with the orchestra, and the choirs followed suit. So that was cool.

It’s easy to be stressed and unhappy about CAL week. It’s hard to find time to get homework done, some of the songs get boring after practicing them so many times, and voices get tired from so much singing. I remember feeling that way last year, but looking back on it, it was definitely one of the most memorable experiences of my freshman year. So, while it’s not that fun right now, I know that I will look back on it as a highlight of my time at Luther.

Also, there’s this thing called “Like a Little”, where students can “flirt” anonymously online with people they see at CAL rehearsals and performances. It provides a very welcome source of entertainment for Luther students, and a nice way to anonymously compliment people. So that’s also cool.
