This past weekend was Homecoming and let me tell you it was sure nice to see all of the alumni back on campus. Being a senior, it is quite the transition from freshman year to now. I don’t know how to describe it exactly but I think it has something to do with the fact that there has always been a grade above me and below me until this year. Now it feels like I walk onto campus and see faces that I don’t recognize (mainly the freshman class) yet. Hopefully as the year goes on I get to know some of them better but it is still weird to be the “top dog” on campus.
That’s why it was nice to have the alumni back this past weekend. It felt like they never left, and they kept on popping up at random times through out my weekend whether it be at the co-op, Wal-Mart, the homecoming parade, or walking the streets of Decorah.
This weekend was filled with tons of events that ranged from the Homecoming Parade, Football Game, Flamingo Ball, Alumni Dinners, and the last day of the Whippy Dip being open until the spring.
It’s nice that the alumni can come back to campus and feel like nothing has changed (except buildings being renovated…depending on how many years it has been since you came to Luther) but for the senior class that graduated last year, not much has changed except the fact that they’re not on campus anymore. But, thankfully for Luther, we have a welcoming community here in Decorah for alumni to come back, and the amount of alumni that do come back really make homecoming weekend so special.Throughout random times during the weekend anyone could start the Luther Cheer, and everyone would join in. It really makes you feel special being a part of a community like this.
This weekend makes me excited to be an alumni (is it too early to say that?) and excited to visit Luther/Decorah in the future. This little town will always hold a special place in my heart and it clearly does for a lot of Luther alumni because they keep coming back to visit!
