Living the life in D.C.

Hello! Sorry I didn’t update on Sunday. So I will give you a nice update about these past couple of days. I am definitely getting into a routine now that I have been out here for a couple of weeks. The metro is becoming more familiar. I have only had one issue where I got on the wrong train, which added about an hour to my travel time this afternoon. I figure it’s a good experience to have that way I can navigate myself home regardless of where I am in the city. Work is going really well at C-SPAN. I am getting to know other interns around the office and my coworkers. I enjoy going to work every day, which is definitely a good thing. I am receiving more responsibilities and projects to do, which definitely helps work go by quickly. I like staying busy and find that I am the most productive when I have a list of things to do, that way I can’t get off task. This past week we visited a homeless shelter that we are able to volunteer at throughout the semester. Through the Lutheran College Washington Semester Program (LCWS) we are required to serve 12 hours of community service so this was one of our options. The homeless shelter that we visited was strictly for single women and it was a very nice facility. When you think of homeless shelters you think of run down, old and not very clean (at least I do) but this one blew my mind away. The facility was very clean, new and impressive. I hope I can find some time to do some community service there, it seems like it would be a rewarding experience. On Saturday, some friends and I visited the National Zoo, which, was really neat. They have pandas, lions, gorillas and elephants to name a few. The nice thing about D.C. is that there are so many things to do that are free. The Zoo was free, tons of different museums like the Natural History, American Art, and Air and Space museum are all free. It’s nice to know that you can spend a day travelling to the museums and not worry about spending money. There is so much to see in the city that I don’t know how I am going to fit it all in. On another note, I found a really nice running route that goes right by the Jefferson, Washington and Lincoln memorial. It’s really cool to be running right along some of the most recognizable buildings in America and I get to do it every day (if I can convince myself to run) Things are going well out here and I can’t wait to update you all about my experiences throughout the semester. This Wednesday were heading to the Pentagon for a tour (it should be pretty sweet). But for now, I am going to watch a movie with the roommates and get ready for work tomorrow. Until next time, Mario
