Winter has been hesitant to arrive this season. Last week appeared as a long string of spring days. I looked out my window and saw a snowless field of people tossing frisbees around in t-shirts. As a non-native of the east coast, I expected the harshest of winters here in the Iowa. But I was starting to believe that it was all a lie! Was I really "roughing out" a midwestern winter? Thursday answered my question. Absolutely not. Wednesday night, temperatures dropped dramatically and snow fell furiously through the night until the morning. We awoke to a winter wonderland and the snow kept falling all of Thursday. It was spectacular. (We get snow in New Jersey but let's just say it's not considered 'old hat' for it to snow heavily for an entire day.) The midwestern winter had finally arrived, and it slapped me in the face with its harsh dry winds and bitter cold. But you know what!? I gladly embrace it as something new and different. Let's just hope it doesn't get much colder!
