T’was the night before finals, and all through Decorah, not a student was stirring, not even Aurora. The books were opened by the tea mug with care, in hopes that good grades soon would be there. The students were nestled, all snug at their desks, while visions of Christmas danced in their heads. And profs with their tests and I with my pencil, Had settled our brains for a long, grueling final. When out on the (library) lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the desk to see what was the matter. Away to the window, I flew with a flash. Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash. The students walk by, heads bent low, wishing for some weather that resembles snow. When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, a Luther professor spreading joy and cheer. With a little writing, so clever and knowing, I finish my final, the good feelings flowing. Now Christmas, now break, now chocolate and sweets. On couches, on chairs, on pillows and seats. To the top of the tree, to the top of the hall. Now dash away, dash away, dash away all!
