Greetings! Welcome back to another exciting year of me blogging again! For those of you that are new to reading the blogs then I extend a warm welcome to you all. My name is Mario Martinucci and I am currently in my junior year at Luther College. I have been blogging since Freshman year and I have a blast updating you readers every week about my life…even if it is a little boring at times. I am from White Bear Lake, Minnesota, which is a northern suburb of the Twin Cities area.
I figured for this first post I would update everyone on how my summer went. To begin, I spent my ENTIRE summer working. I had a full-time job at a hospital in the kitchen. It was quite the experience working 7am to 3pm everyday. I was in charge of delivering all of the items that people wanted at any time of the day so I basically ran around the hospital and it tired me out everyday. The only thing that I looked forward to every day was my nap after work. Besides working, I spent a lot of time playing tennis as well. I tried to hit for a couple hours every day and by the end of the summer I could definitely see an improvement in my skills, which is what I was hoping to do.
This fall, I got to move in early because I am a member of the Student Activities Council (SAC) Executive Board. I am one of the SAC Cinema Co-Chairs, which means that I am responsible for setting up movie nights about once a month throughout the school year. Our movie nights are held at the Viking Theater, which is in Decorah. The movie nights give students the opportunity to see new movies that recently came out in theaters and the chance to get off campus for a little bit. We have a good turnout for most of our movie nights, which is always a great thing. Anyways I got to move in early because the Executive Board went on a retreat to work on our team bonding and leadership skills. It was a lot of fun and we got to go on a high ropes course, which tested us physically and mentally. It was a nice to get to know the Executive Board better and we all really bonded from the experience. On top of being on the Executive Board, SAC puts on numerous events during the first week of school to keep the excitement of being back at Luther consistent. There were events such as Comedy Sportz, A Welcome to Luther Dance, and a hypnotist. I can proudly say that I have gotten hypnotized all three years that I have been at the show. I am going to go for a fourth time next fall as well…I am crossing my fingers that I get back on stage again. I am known around campus as the “guy who got hypnotized” so that’s always a good thing to hear.
I really got involved on campus last year so I have been pretty busy as far as meetings what not. I am on the executive board for two clubs that I am in: SAC and the Entrepreneurship Club (E-Club) so I have a lot more responsibility than I did last year. It’s a lot of work but I find that I work best when I have a lot of things to take care of. It gives me less time to spend on Facebook. I know this post has been lengthy but I just had SO much to catch everyone up on. Next week I will for sure talk about my classes because that’s why I am at college, right? I hope everyone is adjusting to being back at school…I know I am.
Until next time, Mario
