Hey Everyone, Well I can’t believe I forgot to update last week. I’m sorry to all my readers. This year is just flying by. It feels like it was September last week. Two weekends ago I went to the University of Wisconsin-Madison to visit some friends from high school. It was a lot of fun, and it was nice to see my old friends. But going on this little “vacation” reassured me that Luther is the right choice for me.
Don’t get me wrong, Madison is an excellent school that has many great things about it… my own brother went to Madison…but personally it just was not for me. It’s such a big town and there is so much traffic all the time. When I was sleeping I can’t tell you how many ambulances I heard. I have to admit that I was not used to being around so much commotion all the time. There were cars everywhere and people walking in the streets in between traffic. I guess the city life isn’t for me…but that’s ok it’s not for everyone. Not to mention I couldn’t imagine having to wake up an extra 30 minutes earlier to have to account for walking to class because it’s all the way across campus.
I’m used to Decorah where the town is small…but not too small. Campus is big enough to get away, but small enough where I can walk from one end to the other in 5-10 minutes. Another thing that I noticed when I was in Madison was that I was spending money like it was free. I don’t know if it was because I was seeing stores that I haven’t seen in awhile or if it’s because they were simply there. Which is another thing that I like about Luther…there is not a need to go spend money all the time (granted you could go to Wal-Mart and spend a good chunk of change.
Classes are beginning to get tougher. This week I have my first tests and the research paper for Paideia is due in about 3ish weeks so I really need to step it up and get working on it. I foresee some long nights in Preus (the campus library). Other than that I am just trying to stay on top of my schoolwork and look for summer jobs. I want to make money this summer so I can possibly have enough to pay for traveling over J-term next year. Well it’s getting kind of late and I have to wake up early tomorrow so I’m going to cut it here. I hope everyone’s having a good senior year and looking forward to college (regardless of where you go). I know I was extremely pumped to get to college for my entire senior year! Mario
